First Department of Internal Medicine - Department of Hematology The General Teaching Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care in the whole range of internal medicine and highly specialized care in the fields of hematology and haematooncology as one of the 8 main hematology centers in the Czech Republic. In total, it has 3 bed wards with 25 standard beds, a transplant unit with 10 beds and outpatient operation with 8 outpatient clinics, a daily hospital with 17 application chairs and a trepanobioptic ward with 5 beds.
Oncological hematology deals mainly with the diagnosis and treatment of lymphomas (non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphoma), multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, hairy cell leukemia, as well as myeloproliferative diseases - chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid and lymphoblast leukemia. Furthermore, patients with coagulation and haemostatic disorders, autoimmune anemia, thrombocytopenia, etc. are treated here. Hematology departments are actively involved in the work of the Cooperative Lymphoma Group (KLS, Czech Lymphoma Study Group), participates in international scientific projects within the European Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Group (EBMT), the European Cancer Research and Treatment Organization (EORTC), international cooperation in the diagnosis and treatment of myeloma within the Czech Republic. myeloma groups CMG 2002 and MDS within the MDS Group at the Czech Haematological Society.
At the same time, the clinic serves as a teaching center for the First Faculty of Medicine in Prague. The clinic also includes a hematology laboratory carrying out basic morphological, molecular biological tests. The clinic cooperates closely with the Department of Experimental Hematology, Department of Pathophysiology, with which it participates in a number of research activities.
