Workplace characteristics
The Department of Neurology of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the General Teaching Hospital, was established in the historical premises of the hospital as the first clinic of this field in the Czech Republic. It combines with modern equipment and excellent intellectual capacity of workers It is the only clinic in the Czech Republic that brings together the outpatient and inpatient departments of adult and pediatric neurology in one unit with the diagnostic complement of neurophysiological, neuroradiological and neuroimmunological laboratories.
Medical-preventive care
In terms of medical and preventive care, the Neurological Clinic fulfills the role of primary general neurological care within the scope of its catchment area (including consultancy for all inpatient facilities of the General Teaching Hospital), as well as the role of super-consiliency care for the whole area of the Czech Republic. Thanks to the intensive care unit, patients with acute neurological conditions were also treated.
Currently, the clinic has achieved the role of centers of national importance in the field of extrapyramidal diseases, demyelinating diseases, myasthenia gravis and sleep and wakefulness disorders. Other areas of interest are developmental neurology and pediatric neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular diseases, child and adult epileptology, vertebrogenic diseases and headaches.
The diagnostic methods are used mainly for imaging examinations (MRI - located in the clinic building), neurophysiological laboratory (EEG, EMG, all modalities of evoked potentials, polysomnography and outpatient sleep examination techniques), neuropsychological and neuroimmunological examinations.
